Summary done of project activities and a work plan produced for the forthcoming poriod at the BiH Ministry for Human Rights

Strengthening the role of civil society organisations in monitoring the national Strategy to combat violence against children 2011-2014 in BiH

During the meeting held in Sarajevo, which was attended by representatives of Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees (MHRR), Vesta's project associate, and Vesta Association as the implementer, participants discussed the progress achieved in project implementation in 2011, priorities, and plans for the current project year.

The focus was on the status of produced documents, whose adoption is expected, and which are either a direct result of the project (Ethical codex for researching about and with children in BiH and Protocol for monitoring of implementation of the national Strategy to combat violence against children in BiH 2011-2014) or represent a precondition for their successful finalizing (national Strategy to combat violence against children in BiH 2011-2014/15).

Assistant Minister for Human Rights, Ms Saliha Đuderija stated that, from the Ministry's perspective, as an associate in this project, she is pleased with cooperation with Vesta, and the scope and quality of progress achieved in 2011.

The national Strategy to combat violence against children is in its final stage, and it is planned for the document to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval in March 2012.

The Ethical Codex for researching about and with children in BiH was forwarded to the relevant bodies for comments and observations. At the end of February it will become subject of public debate, which will involve relevant representatives of state institutions, agencies and NGOs which are dealing with children's rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After that, the Ethical codex will be forwarded to the Council of Ministers to be adopted.

As part of project activities, Vesta Association is developing the Protocol with standards for monitoring of the national Strategy to combat violence against children in BiH 2011-2014, whose finalising is expected immediately following passing of the Strategy.

One of the conclusions of this meeting was that communication and cooperation between the MHRR and Vesta on issues pertaining to the project „Strengthening the role of civil society organisations in monitoring the national Strategy to combat violence against children 2011-2014 in BiH“ is satisfactory and resulting with concrete achievements in project implementation, as well as joint, very open and involved addressing of problems and obstacles that the project is facing.

It is expected that the close cooperation and regular consultations will continue in the time to come, in the spirit of meeting a shared objective.
