This Annual Report presents not only a sheer overview of projects and activities that Association Vesta has carried out in 2008, but it also presents our overall progress, entirely dedicated to promotion of human rights, gender equality and civil dialogue. Therefore, it proves not only our devoted work, but also continuous growth and a steady organizational development.

Recommendations and Guidelines for Including Gender Perspective in Local Budgets in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The aim of this publication is to present a set of instruments for analyzing the gender perspective of public revenue and expenditures, as well as for determining the balance of gender perspective in the management and allocation of tax-payer funds. In order to demonstrate the concrete application of these instruments on local budgets, this publication presents the findings from the analyses of public expenditures in five municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Banovići, Bijeljina, Srebrenica, Travnik and Tuzla).

Youth and the Media: Guidelines for Trainers

These training guidelines are intended for current trainers employed by local radio stations as well as prospective trainers. The first part of the handbook contains a theoretical overview which is necessary for the preparation and creation of an independent youth media program. The second part of the Youth and the Media: Guidelines for Trainers offers an outline of proposed classes and workshops.

IN FOCUS: Socially Active Female Politicians

VESTA monitored various media and produced the publication Gender, Media and the Elections.  Additionally, VESTA worked with local partners and organized two workshops with female politicians and representatives of the media with the goal of establishing better communication and cooperation between the media and female candidates. In the months following the general election, the publication In Focus: Socially Active Female Politicians was created for the purpose of promoting the work of female politicians.

RESPECT EQUALITY: Examples of Good Practice of Sustainability of Minority Return

The publication Respect Equality: Examples of Good Practice of Sustainability of Minority Return describes recent outcomes of VESTA's ongoing project, RESPECT Equality. The publication includes information about successful initiatives and campaigns launched by minority returnee communities in the return zones.

Social Responsibility in the Media

To be socially responsible sometimes requires great compromises.  The media is no exception.  This publication is intended for managers and journalists in print, broadcast, and online media.  Topics include: the media and human rights; discrimination, xenophobia and the media; how to report on human rights; the responsibilities of the media towards the society.

Gender, Media and the Elections

This report includes the findings of VESTA's media study during the 2006 general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  For two weeks leading up to the October elections, VESTA monitored electronic and print media in Tuzla Canton and analyzed the media's coverage and representation of female candidates.

The achieved results in the development of policies for environmental protection in the area of the Tuzla Canton 

Association Vesta and the Centre for Ecology and Energy from Tuzla devised and later realized the project "Support for the development of policies for environmental protection through public advocacy campaigns and active citizen participation," supported by the EU. This publication presents the results of the project, as well as a description of the public advocacy campaigns which were part of the project. 

Civil Society Organizations and Public Advocacy for the Development of Environmental Protection and Restoration Policies

This publication represents an overview of the main instruments needed for the successful planning, realization and evaluation of environmental public advocacy campaigns. The authors also present the experiences of numerous civil society organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad as valuable case studies.

This handbook deals with the relations between citizens and local authorities regarding economic initiatives for development. We recommend this publication to community leaders and municipal authorities who wish to learn more about the principles and possibilities of active citizen participation in the decision-making process at the local level.

This handbook offers a comprehensive overview of ways to resolve small issues in local communities. Intended for local leaders and active citizens, this publication describes the basic tools needed for establishing effective communication in order to work toward common goals and initiate local development projects.

Our environment without illegal waste dumps - A handbook for active citizen action through partnership 

Waste is one of the greatest problems for keeping the environment in B&H clean. Massive amounts of waste are dumped along roads and rivers and in the immediate vicinity of residential and business areas, creating a hazard for human health and the environment. The negative effects are multiple. From the handbook you can find out more on this threat, as well as the consequences of uncontrolled waste disposal; how to begin the resolution of the problem of illegal dumps; what are the steps citizens can take?
